LWL-Industriemuseum Schiffshebewerk Henrichenburg
Discover Industrial Culture
It’s 11th August 1899: the crowd cheers as Emperor Wilhelm II inaugurates the Henrichenburg ship hoist. More than 100 years later, the biggest building on the Dortmund-Ems Canal still inspires its visitors, even though the gigantic hoist has been out of use for more than 40 years. After all, in the Museum of Industry, the history of the ship hoist and the people who worked at the canal comes to life once again. Onboard one of the museum ships, visitors find out how a typical family worked and lived at the canal 50 years ago. A pleasure boat departs from the museum jetty several times a day – in return for a small extra payment.
One free entry. Passenger boat trip not included
Due to renovation work for the new permanent exhibition, the Kessel- and Maschinenhaus will be closed until November 2021. All further information is available here.
