Ruhr Museum und Portal der Industriekultur
Treasures and Museums
The coal washing plant at the UNESCO Zollverein World Heritage Site is the home of the Ruhr Museum, the regional museum of the Ruhr district. Before the spectacular industrial backdrop, visitors learn all about the nature, culture and history of the industrial site. Follow the path of the coal through the staircase that glows in orange, and immerse yourself ever deeper into the history of the region. This stretches back to the existence of coal more than 300 million years ago, to the structural changes, to the metropolitan Ruhr district of today.
