Museen Burg Altena und Deutsches Drahtmuseum

One free entry to the Burg Altena museum and the Deutsches Drahtmuseum. Is not valid for the special events Medieval Spectacle Altena from 31.07. to 02.08. and Winter Spectacular from 27. to 29.11. The use of the infotainment lift is subject to a charge.

High above the old wire-pulling town is the beautiful Burg Altena [Altena Castle], home to the world's first youth hostel and a monument of national importance. The main attraction is the exciting Museum der Grafschaft Mark, which invites you to fight, hunt and enjoy the delights of the knights' and nobles' table and the lives of craftsmen and farmers. Just 500 m below the castle is the fascinating Deutsches Drahtmuseum, which shows you how wire was produced and processed and what is still made out of it today. It opens your eyes and shows how much the world then and now depends on wire. Getting up to the castle is made easier by the unique infotainment lift.
