Museen Burg Altena und Deutsches Drahtmuseum
Treasures and Museums
High above the old wire-making town is beautiful Altena Castle, home to the world’s first youth hostel and a monument of national importance. Its main attraction is the fascinating Museum of the County of Mark, which invites visitors to fight, hunt and enjoy the delights of the knights’ and nobles’ table and the lives of the craftsmen and farmers. Just 500 m below the castle is the fascinating German Museum of Wire, which shows you how wire was made and formed, and things it is still used for today. The museum is an eye-opener which shows how much the world depends on wire, then as now. The ascent to the castle is made easier with the unique infotainment lift.
One free entry to Altena Castle Museum and the German Museum of Wire
Does not apply to the Altena Medieval Spectacular and Winter Spectacular special events. The use of the infotainment lift is subject to a charge.
