Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord – Tour de Ruhr
Discover Industrial Culture
A window into the exciting history of the Ruhr Valley! August Thyssen founded the Meiderich iron and steel works in 1902 at the peak of the industrial era, and people worked here until 1985. After the local people successfully prevented the demolition of the buildings, this 200 hectare area of industrial wasteland became home to one of the most impressive industrial monuments in the world. A maze of scaffolding, pipes, boilers, stairs and platforms gives visitors a feel for the former importance of the coal and steel industry in the region. Industrial heritage, nature and a fascinating light show are combined here.
